Bugbears are a monster race created alongside Goblins, Hobgoblins, Kobolds, Lizardfolk and Orcs to make XP acquisition easier for Clerics. Bugbears are a type of goblinoid: larger and stronger than their kin, but rarer and less civilized.
Bugbears are represented as one of the three major races of goblinoid, being present on the flag of Gobbotopia and boasting a minority population there. However, bugbears on the whole are largely pessimistic about their station, believing that the Dark One favors goblins and hobgoblins and their inclusion is largely a matter of tokenism. Because of this, they are not as devoutly religious, seeing the Dark One as a "so-so deity."
A clan of bugbears is located near Serini's Gate and appear to be lead by Oona. All of the bugbear villagers appear to wear white fur headdresses with red markings, with Oona being the only one so far to take her headdress off. The tomb surrounding the gate, which the bugbears apparently hold in high importance as it provides them with both a safe refuge from the Dwarves and a place to hunt and tame monsters.
